Created and taken on mass by the world Seen and dismissed Seen and devoured
Yet Taken so gently in your hand
Looked at and treasured Held, piece by tiny, little piece Held, so preciously, so gently With your tender hand Nurtured with a thought With those wise fingers As you humbly walk
Your mind drifts on a journey beyond this life Your steps carry a journey beyond this strand
You continue to hold it so precious in your hand As man devours you Dismissed by the masses of the land
I wrote this piece whilst at Dunkirk refugee camp, volunteering for a month. I chatted and shared chocolate with a true, gentle, kind man and feel honoured to have been in his company. Chocolate has a new preciousness to me.
